Augusta suffered from uveitis, a painful chronic eye condition. This large, dark brown Standard jennet was admitted to the Sanctuary in late 2009 when she was 9 years old. Augusta had lived for five years on a small horse farm where she was treated very well. However, her caregiver had made the decision to return to school and he did not think that he would be able to continue to provide her with the specialist care that her condition required.
Despite our veterinarians' best efforts, Augusta's condition continued to deteriorate, and with much regret, we reached the decision that Augusta would need to be euthanized. This decision was very difficult for our veterinarian and staff here at the DSC, but we all agreed that this was the most humane course of action to follow.
