Curly Sam is a dark gray, small Standard donkey who was admitted for lifelong care to The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada in 2004. At that time, he was three years old.
Little was known about Curly Sam’s background when he was brought to the DSC, except that his previous owners had moved into an urban environment and they could no longer give him care. He was in good physical condition at the time of admission, and he was gelded soon thereafter. At the DSC, the donkeys and mules are not bought, sold or bred.
When Curly Sam was ready to be introduced to the main herd of donkeys at the Farm, his easy-going temperament allowed him to quickly become a part of their day to day routine. In addition, after a very short period of time, Sanctuary Staff noticed that Curly Sam was most often in the company of Luna, a Miniature 5 year old donkey. In the months since, their bond has persisted and they are almost always side by side.
During the forthcoming year we will work on your behalf to provide Curly Sam with the best possible life. He is an important member of The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada family and we thank you for assisting with his costs of care.
