Werther was admitted to The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada Farm in winter, 2008. He had been rescued by a supporter of the DSC who lived in rural Ontario. At a nearby farm, a lamb was born and then orphaned. When the lamb was four weeks old, this friend of the DSC contacted us to determine whether we could help and take him in. We agreed to give him a home, bottle-feeding and all. He is a Katahdin hair sheep and was given the name, Werther, due to his butterscotch colour.
Werther is a highly-energetic creature, often seen gamboling from one end of the barnyard to the other. In very short order, he identified the barn as ‘home’ and the other sheep as his companions. He watches them continually, learning all the while where to go and what to eat. Often he can be seen tagging behind Nello, another Katahdin sheep, or resting in a cool spot in the lower barn.
Here at The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada we will aim to provide the best life that we can for Werther. Thank you for helping us with the costs of his care during the next twelve months.
