Joey lived on a farm in southwestern Ontario until his caregiver was no longer able to provide the level of care he required. In the fall of 2012, she asked the DSC to give him a lifelong home.
When Joey first came to the DSC, his hooves were too long, and there was evidence of long-term and painful laminitis. Our farrier got to work on his hooves right away, and our hope was to keep him comfortable for years to come. Because of his age, it is somewhat more difficult to treat the condition. Joey remains on pain medication to help him stay comfortable.
Joey is currently our oldest donkey here on the farm. He is a very friendly donkey, seeking attention and affection from everyone.
