Joey Standard Donkey

Joey is a red roan Standard gelding who we estimate was born in 1983. Joey lived on a farm in Southwestern Ontario until his caregiver was no longer able to provide the level of care he required. In the fall of 2012, she asked the DSC to give him a lifelong home.

When Joey first came to the DSC, his hooves were longer than we like to see, and there was some evidence of long-term laminitis. Our farrier got to work on his hooves right away, and our hopes are to keep him comfortable for years to come.

Joey quickly won the hearts of staff, volunteers and visitors. He is a very friendly donkey, seeking attention and affection from everyone who enters the barnyard. He particularly likes having his ears scratched. We’re looking forward to having Joey with us at the main Sanctuary farm. His sweet personality is sure to delight everyone who meets him.
