Chuck has spent the majority of his life residing on a private farm, where he received attentive and affectionate care. As the health of his owner began to decline, they found themselves unable to continue meeting Chuck’s needs. In seeking a secure and supportive environment for him, they reached out to the Donkey Sanctuary of Canada (DSC) with the hope that Chuck could become part of the sanctuary’s extended family. He was welcomed into the DSC in the summer of 2025.
Since his arrival, Chuck has demonstrated a keen curiosity and a friendly disposition, readily engaging with his new surroundings and fellow residents. As staff members have become more familiar with his personality, one particularly amusing behavior has come to light: during breakfast, Chuck often tosses hay onto his back. It remains unclear whether this habit is a means of storing food for later consumption or a strategy to deter flies—nonetheless, it has become a charming aspect of his daily routine which brings a smile to everybody.
