Meet Beans

Beans and his best friend Burrito arrived at the DSC in 2017 after their owner was no longer able to care for them. We were happy to welcome them both and ensure these two friends could stay together. Beans may have a small name, but he has a big presence. He’s a very sweet and curious donkey who has always enjoyed interacting with guests on public open days, happily soaking up attention and making new friends. In 2022, Beans faced a serious health challenge when a lower respiratory infection progressed to pneumonia. With treatment from the Ontario Veterinary College Large Animal Clinic and dedicated care from our team, he recovered well. Because of his advanced age and susceptibility to respiratory infections, Beans lives in our special care paddock, where he receives a little extra monitoring and support, of course alongside Burrito.
