Chai

Before coming to the Donkey Sanctuary of Canada (DSC) in the fall of 2021, Chai lived on a farm in the Kawartha area, where she was housed with cattle as well as 10 of her donkey friends. Cayenne and her friends had no appropriate shelter, nutrition or care.

Within the herd, there were also intact male donkeys, thus, Chai arrived at the DSC with a foal, Nitro, by her side. We suspect that this foal was not Chai’s first baby, and a few month after her arrival we found out it would also not be her last baby, as she gave birth to another boy in July 2022.

When Chai arrived at the DSC she was quite unsure of her new life.

With time, patience, and gentle handling from our staff and volunteers, Chai came out of her shell and adjusted to her life at the DSC.

In August 2024, she graduated to a wonderful Host Farm, along with her pal Brie where they have stolen the hearts of their Host Farm family!
