Meet Duggie

Before arriving at the Donkey Sanctuary of Canada (DSC), Duggie lived in Perth County, where he was well handled and well cared for by his owners. He lived there with a pony mare who was unknowingly pregnant. As the mare’s due date approached, his owners became increasingly concerned about Duggie’s reactive behaviour toward small animals and the potential risk to the incoming foal.

After the mare safely delivered her foal early May of 2026, Duggie was kept carefully separated until he arrived at the sanctuary on May 7th, 2026. Since coming to the DSC, Duggie has begun settling into his new surroundings, and we are looking forward to learning more about his personality and helping him feel safe and comfortable in his new home.

Duggie has one deformed ear, though no one is certain how the injury originally occurred. Fortunately, it does not cause him any discomfort or affect his quality of life, and it only adds to his unique charm and character.
