Pekoe

Before coming to the DSC in the fall of 2021, Chai (his mother) lived on a farm in the Kawartha area, where she was kept in an open field with cattle, as well as 10 of her donkey friends. Chai and her friends did not have appropriate shelter, nutrition, or care in their previous home.

Chai arrived at the DSC with her foal, Nitro (Pekoe’s brother), by her side and we suspected that this foal was not Chai’s first baby – and it wouldn’t be her last either! Within a few months we discovered that Chai was pregnant at the time of her rescue and we welcomed baby Pekoe at 12:45am on July 7, 2022.

Pekoe is a playful donkey who loves to run and play with the other young donkeys here at the farm. We imagine Pekoe will be a leader among his donkey friends when he’s all grown up.
